The history of Aunt Ruby’s German Green Giant Tomato……
Ruby Arnold of Greenville, Tennessee received seeds of this tomato from a grandfather of German Ancestry as a young girl early in the 19th century and maintained the cultivar all her life. She lived to the ripe old age of 96, presumably from working in the garden and eating lots of healthy and tasty tomatoes! After her death in 1997, a niece of Ruby made the seed available to seed savers from where it found its way to the SSE. Due to the popularity of this exceptional tomato, seeds spread quickly amongst seed savers and gardeners. We are very happy to be the first local seed savers to make this gem of a tomato available to gardeners all over South Africa.
