Jamaican Red Chilli
The Jamaican Hot Red Chilli hails from the West Indies where is is reputed to be a firm favourite amongst locals. Interesting squash-like fruit of this "crazy hot" variety are considered to be the hottest of all the Jamaican Hot Chillies. Several dozen deceptively pretty lime green ripening to rich red fruit are produced by each of the stocky 60cm high bushes.
Surprisingly, if you can overcome the extreme heat of the Jamaican Hot Red Chilli and eat it fresh, the flavour is remarkably complex with sweet overtones of apple, apricot and citrus. Use these little powerhouses, perhaps cautiously in marinades, sauces and pickles.
